Pakshipathalam is located in the Mananthavady. In Malayalam the name itself suggests that its a bird sanctuary Located at a distance of 7 km from Thirunelli. It is home to several species of birds. It's inspiring features of forests, streams and steep hills together. It offers adventure for the trekkers. One of its major tourist attractions is a cave which is assumed to have been used for medical purpose by the saints in the ancient times. Bats inhabitant this cave and another species of bird known as Edible Nest Swift which built their nest with their saliva is found in this cave, it is a home to several species of birds like babbler, cuckoo, owl, woodpecker, peacock and jungle fowl. The exciting part of this cave is that you will have to trek through forest, which takes 3 hours to reach this cave. There is also a watch tower in this place which can be used for watching birds and animals.permission must be taken from the forest department in order to reach Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary.

How to Reach

By Road: There is no road to Pakshipathalam, you will have to trek through the forest for about 13 km. Pakshipathalam and 32 km from Mananthavady.

By Air: The near by airport to this place is Karipur International Airport which is about 20km from Kozhikode.

By Rail: to reach this place by rail it takes about 100 km from Mananthavady.

The best time to visit Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary,is: Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Oct, Nov, Dec. better to avoid the Rainy season.
