History BIMBA in Sanskrit connotes Reflection. BIMBA mirrors the unique vision of an artist for growing art - its practice and sharing. The co-founders of Bimba Art Foundation are Deepak and Deepika Dorai. The philosophy - EARTH SENSITIVE ART has grown into their mantra. THE ART HUT (which we now find only in Jayanagar and Basavanagudi in Bangalore) - sprang into existence in July 2001 in the heart of Chennai city. In a 50 year old building with old world character in Srinagar Colony. Then shifted to Bangalore in 2006 .The art hut is a 100 year old, half ruined building convert into an art campus. THINGS TO SEE AND DO They house a diverse set of items, which are never produced in a uniform manner. Depending on the creator's mood and inspiration, each piece varies from the other, allowing no repetition. They have items ranging from itsy-bitsy drawer knobs to very grand wooden stools and shelves, which are inspired by colors and designs from the Indian flora and fauna. Every piece in their store has a history, making any purchase a meaningful one. With every piece varying from the other, you can definitely bag an exclusive creation here. Handmade Organic Art in attire, soft decor, artefacts for living spaces, paintings, sketches, sculpture, pottery, and much more – creations which blur the divide between art and function, tradition and modernity. Beauty and Innovations in skilful handcrafted furniture, furnishing, clothes and accessories for all ages, display and storage ideas etc are some of the surprises that will enthral you. Green Art embellishes public and private spaces now - exteriors and interiors, temple walls, aesthetic wood-less modular kitchens , an array of collapsible props made for a travelling period dance drama, pooja rooms, entertainment and children’s rooms and more. RASALOK, a still theatre programme is conducted every weekend. This form of art form is founded by Deepika’s mother, Smt. Uma Nagaraj. Entire moment in still theatre is created in miniature proportions. Deepika has lent her own perspective to this visually stunning and dramatic experience that is showcased every Navratri at Bimba the Art Foundation in Basavanagudi. Having been sustained by one family for three successive generations, it is heartening that the Central Government has taken special note and recognized Rasalok as an individual art form and theatre style from Karnataka. This is held on every Sunday at 6:30 P.M. The programmes are based on stories taken from the ancient scriptures like Vedas, Upanishads among others. A separate room showcases the Bombe Habba traditionally associated with Dussehra and Navaratri. The exhibition and performance are open to adults, school and college students, and special interest groups three times a day, every day during the 10 days of Dussehra.
