Bihar

Bihar is birth place of two major religion(Bhuddhism & Jainism), Lord Budha get enlightment at Bodhgaya, Lord Mahavir get Nirvana at Pawapuri so pls. put the real fact about Bihar not the negative thingh like "It among the poorest state of India",

Patna has direct road connectivity with Kathmandu & Thimpu via Raxaul and Jogbani on India/Nepal border many travellers from Nepal/Bhutan/India use these roads to get in, Patna is a vital link as it is the state capital well connected with Road/Rail/Air with other part of India.

I agree that Patna is sometimes used as a jumping off point for overland travel to Nepal, but I dispute that there is a direct connection to Thimphu. Most Bhutanese heading overland to Nepal will go via Siliguri. Even those going on pilgrimage to Bodh Gaya are unlikely to pass through Patna. However, it is great that you are working on the Bihar page. We do need to inform travelers that it is the poorest state and that strikes are common but, as you say, there are many sacred sites connected with the Buddha in Bihar, and even Patna itself was the capital of an ancient kingdom. Bihar Geography

Request you to update the correct geography of Bihar as UttarPradesh is in the west of Bihar and West Bengal is in East of Bihar, pls. update.

I fixed it now, since I checked up if you were correct. But please plunge forward and make such changes yourself in the future, this is the whole point of this site, and wiki's in general. And please do add your local knowledge to the relevant articles, but remember to be objective - changing correct information, because you think it puts your state in a bad light - is, unlike your contributions, not welcome here (per discussion above), neither is content from other sites, it has to be your own work/writing - try it, it's quite fun once you get into it :)

An idea to fix the example above for instance, could be changing the paragraph into "Bihar is one of the poorest states in India, but don't let that put you off, it has a wealth of good attractions, and it's the birthplace of two major religions (Bhuddhism & Jainism)"... --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) ^Talk 08:50, 4 December 2008 (EST)

Bihar crime

Hi Piyush, thanks for your contributions to the Bihar article. I apologize that I continuously revert your changes regarding crime. Personally, I'd be happy to delete the statistics, but until now I have not been convinced that do not serve a purpose in helping paint a clearer picture of the true state of affairs in Bihar. If you can provide evidence that crime against tourists, percentage wise, is low in Bihar compared to the national average, I'd be happy to join you in persuading my fellow contributors to remove the figures. Hi WindHorse, there are many region/state/place in India thier crime rate is always above the national average like UP,Jammu & Kashmir, Assam & other place in North Eastern states(Tripura,Meghalaya etc...) but wikivoyage page of these place have not mention such negative & horrifying statistics then why you have put the such statistics on Bihar page, I hope you will creaify!

Hi Piyush... Thanks for your response... The reason Bihar is specifically mentioned with regard to crime is because the crime is mostly on the street and tourists are targeted. Violence in Kashmir, Assam etc is related to independence movements and in general tourists are not the target, but the indigenous population. However, if you believe that violence in those states warrants more attention, please mention it in the articles for those regions. Sorry, I have revert your edit again. However, as I said earlier, if you can provide evidence that crime in Bihar is quite low and that tourists are not at risk, I'd be happy to help convince my fellow contributors to remove the statistics. Cheers, and sorry for keep reverting your efforts, but my priority is to provide travelers with information that will help them gain as clear picture of the places they visit as possible. Took a shot at a rewrite of the section, I think it's a good compromise, so maybe you could focus on other areas. like describing what Dal bhat chhokha, Litti-Chokha, and Taari is, and getting some information in the see section. I remain a little puzzled that you and Manooj are only interested in removing any criticisms, rather than working on helping travellers to see the good parts, by writing some good travel information. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) ^Talk 10:11, 17 January 2009 (EST)
