Okay Ravi, I know that you're very busy, but could you please look through my (WT-en) sandbox and gimme some feedback on the English-Hindi translations that I've been doing for wikivoyage-specific vocab. I want to launch a Hindi wikivoyage expedition by next month if all goes well...  :)

I dunno what Hi:Wp uses for VfD (well, they use AfD in en). I opened AfD but couldn't find the hindi link in the other languages box. How about हटाने का प्रस्ताव ?

Do you mean भ्रमण पथ ? That's good. I was think about विचरण पथ but भ्रमण is a better word.

Done, but who's going to write the articles? It is one thing to do the translations. It is another to actually write the guides. Very tough to do. We need some solid committed people for that. I'm not going to start it until we have at least 8 guys :), I realize that writing guides ain't a joke. I'm still working hard on translating the MoS - User:(WT-en) Upamanyuwikivoyage/Sandbox#MoS. If you have spare time, please try to translate a page or two, but if you're busy, no problem :) . I hope it's OK if I encourage my classmates to join because my friend Himanshu will definitely sign up. One wikipedian from the hi:wikipedia, Mitul, has also agreed to join. And User:(WT-en) Yann will also probably accept, I've asked him on his user-page, but perhaps I'll add it in French to his fr: page, he's more active out there. I think that Yann is a she... Not sure. On a 4 for Hindi. Also, did you have a look at my suggestions above? Also, this page is getting too messy. Can you create a page as a subpage of the Hindi expedition page, where everyone can chip in with suggestions for all translations? नाम

विकियात्रा - This is not a bad idea but the snag is that यात्रा refers more to a journey than travel per se.

विकिभ्रमण - This is not a bad idea either. Better than the previous one, the snag here is that भ्रमण is not a very common word. In fact, we're planning to use भ्रमण for itenerary.

Wikivoyage generally uses the same word across all language versions, with the exception of Japanese, since travel may be a little hard to pronounce for Japanese speakers. In the case of Hindi, there's no spelling issue, and most Hindi-speaking people will be able to understand the word travel. In fact, the chances of an internet user knowing the word travel is greater than the chances of him/her knowing what भ्रमण means, it is seriously quite Sanskritized!

That said, you have a right to disagree and argue against the viewpoints given above. We'll come to a concensus on this one soon, don't worry, and the outcome will be the word which will be chosen by the majority. Anyway, I'll ask others what they think. I would just like to say that the words used on the Hindi Wikipedia for Template, Website and District are साँचा, जालपृष्ठ and जिला/ज़िला. They might sound a bit complicated/Sanskritised, but I think it may be better than using English words.--Wolf 14:19, 20 March 2007 (EDT)

Yeah, but there is a copyright issue at stake, do you realize that. Wikivoyage has legal claims on the term "wikivoyage" and there'll be legal issues to add to it if we use a "wiki+Hindi word". Besides, you're a wikipedian, and in wikipedia using the shuddh Hindi word is preferable to using an English one. But in wikivoyage, the traveller comes first, so we can't use जालपृष्ठ for website because half the inbternet users who'll be using hi:wt won't be knowing what it means! Our policy is : The Traveller Comes First. We can indeed use साँचा for template, but sorry, जालपृष्ठ is way too Sanskritized. It is no good using words on a travel guide that are way too complicated for others to understand, we have to strike a balance between English and technical Hindi. In fact, I noticed that the Sanskrit wp's interface is completely in English. Terms like जालपृष्ठ would be useful for the sa:wp, even for languages like Marathi or Bengali, but not for Hindi.

Regarding the word wikivoyage, if I had to choose a Hindi alternative, I'd go for WikiParyatan, since we use the term "Paryatan Vishvakosh" for travel guide.
