The local oral legend tells that the formation of the greatest erg of Morocco (Erg Chebbi) was a punishment of God for rich families which refused to accomodate a poor woman with her son at the time of a festival whereas they washed the hands with milk and played with balls of couscous. They - then - were entereés by the sand of the storms of continuous wind which formed of the large dunes of which highest approximately 160 m of altitude measure.
