Hello, Jdylan! Welcome to Wikivoyage. Thanks for the work on the Boracay article.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page.

If you need help, check out Project:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. - (WT-en) Todd VerBeek 16:06, 26 May 2007 (EDT)

Obvious advertising?

[edit]

Can you explain why you found this to be "obvious advertising"? We don't follow Wikipedia's NPOV line, we just try to be fair. (WT-en) Jpatokal 04:21, 19 May 2008 (EDT) --

I'm not the Wikivoyage Police, but come on, man. I don't know how long you've been on Wikivoyage (it looks like a long time), but even you have to admit that this:

"The green curry is simply just heavenly, the homemade ice cream and smoothie will keep you coming back for more."

is pretty opinionated. This looks like it was written by the restaurant or a public relations firm. I found it because I am going there next month, and if I eat there and find it to be sh*t, is it okay if I post that too? The site should be a totally un-opinionated site, with just the name of the business and it's location, phone #, etc. Even it's web site is okay. But what I deleted was a users opinion, and since I have been using wikivoyage, have always read that opinions are not desired and are usually deleted. I know we don't follow wikipedias NOV, but I just thought it was a little strong.

Wikivoyage is explicitly not "totally non-opinionated": the traveller comes first, and we try to be fair. I agree that the description above is a little over the top, but it would be better to tone down to "Try the green curry and the homemade ice cream", instead of deleting the informative bits completely. Sure, I have nothing against sentences such as "try the green curry", as it is a suggestion and not blatant over-the-top advertising.
