Hello, Jjtk! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Project:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. --(WT-en) globe-trotter 12:53, 30 October 2011 (EDT)

Thanks!

[edit]

Great work on Polish and Ukrainian destinations! Much appreciated. --(WT-en) Globe-trotter 08:58, 24 November 2011 (EST)

Thank you! Some of them are a little neglected so I decided to help. (WT-en) Jjtk 03:25, 25 November 2011 (EST)

Patrolling

[edit]

Hi, Jjtk. You are doing a marvelous job! I just want to ask you to do something I, too, didn't realize was necessary at first: When you edit an article, please mark it as patrolled first. That doesn't mean you approved of the previous edit; it just shows others that you already took care of the problem.

All my best to you,

(WT-en) Ikan Kekek 04:25, 7 January 2012 (EST)

Oh, OK. I thought that with 'undoing' it was done automatically. Thanks. (WT-en) Jjtk 06:44, 7 January 2012 (EST)
I think it's supposed to be automatic with "rollback" (I'm not sure it actually is all the time), but it definitely is not for "undo." (WT-en) Ikan Kekek 10:54, 7 January 2012 (EST)
I was reminded that you actually do have to mark an article as "patrolled" before you undo any edit, and you don't have another method for reverting changes. Sorry for being a bit unclear about this before. (WT-en) Ikan Kekek 06:42, 16 January 2012 (EST)

Patrolling

[edit]

Great to see all the patrolling you are doing. I noticed you patrol one edit at a time, which is ok, but you can patrol more at a time if you go to 'preferences' > 'Recent changes' and then click 'enhanced recent changes', --(WT-en) ClausHansen 09:06, 13 January 2012 (EST)

Wedding dresses - Łódź

[edit]

I tend to disagree with your removal of that information. I know of numerous (20+ people) travelers (Westerners) who go to Poland (Łódź, Kraków) to buy cheap wedding dresses because they heard that you can buy it very cheap there. Even I bought myself a wedding dress in Łódź when I stayed there - and I am from Oslo where the prices of wedding garments go through the roof so I think most Norwegians (at least) would appreciate such info.

That's the reason why I included such information in the article. I would be happy if you could give me your arguments for removing the "wedding dress" section. Łódź is (was) known for its textile industry and I find some validity for including such info. We can discuss the form in which it should be presented, but I think the purpose is clear.

Uban camping

[edit]

Hi there, I see that you have edited the Urban Camping page, I was just interested if there is any possibility to contact as I am interested in doing the same?

Sorry, I just deleted a space in front of exclamation mark in that article. I know nothing on the subject itself. (WT-en) Jjtk 07:59, 22 January 2012 (EST)

Nice maps—it's always great to see new contributors interested in a little hobbyist cartography! I saw you were soliciting feedback, so I hope you don't mind mine:

  1. On the districts overview map, the central districts get a little bit lost. Perhaps try slightly more muted colors on the big districts and something a bit bolder for the small central ones? Darkening the district names text might help a bit too.
  2. It would be great to add the scale and compass to the overview map. Also, do you plan to show any further district breakdowns (e.g., where is Zwierzyniec?)
  3. For Image:Krakow Kazimierz map.png (another pretty map!), I would really recommend enlarging text to make it easier to read, either when printed, or simply viewed in the article. Right now it's quite hard to read the street names and building names in particular. I usually aim for in-article readability, so that people can just print out the article and read the map without having to try and print it separately through a different program. Maybe the end aesthetic isn't what you prefer though—take a look at Image:West End map.png.

Lastly, it would be nice to fix up Kraków#Districts to use the regionlist template. I usually just copy the basic code from, say, Peru#Districts, and then change the names and colors accordingly and add descriptions.

Please let me know if you have any other questions! --(WT-en) Peter Talk 23:28, 9 February 2012 (EST)

Hey, thank you for help! I agree, the colours on Kraków map might be overwhelming and Kazimierz is unreadable, I'll update them over the weekend.
The thing about breaking districts down... what I really want to do is change the whole Kraków structure - like I wrote it on Talk , add Kraków/Zwierzyniec and Kraków/Krowodrza (which is empty and most likely not gonna get better) to make West, add Kraków/Dębniki (emptyish again) and Kraków/Podgórze to make South. And rename Kraków/Nowa Huta to East. That way we'll avoid confusing situation where smaller districts act as representatives for huge areas.
If there'll be no opposition to this I'll do the change and then the description and coloring.
Thanks again! -- (WT-en) Jjtk 05:31, 10 February 2012 (EST)

Unintentional rollback

[edit]

Hi, Jjtk. I accidentally rolled back your latest edit of Limanowa, then rolled back my own action. Sorry for the mistake, but no harm was done, in the end.

All the best,

(WT-en) Ikan Kekek 02:42, 3 March 2012 (EST)

No problem! (WT-en) Jjtk 03:48, 3 March 2012 (EST)

Welcome

[edit]

Hi, I also want to welcome you. I've tended to limit my editing in recent years, but it's great to see a Pole interested on the site. It's tough to get these Polish destinations into shape, but hopefully it'll be easier with your help. I plan to start working on Warsaw (Mieszkam w Warszawie) soon, but I've been so busy lately. -- (WT-en) Sapphire(Talk) • 19:11, 9 March 2012 (EST)

Cześć! It's a great site and Polish destinations are slightly underdeveloped, but it seems Warsaw is in better shape than Kraków was few months ago. It badly needs maps and I think I'll get to it sometime in near future. (WT-en) Jjtk 03:23, 10 March 2012 (EST)

Pension Barcelona

[edit]

Hello Jjtk,

During the last days I had a conversation with another Admin (Jc8136) and I would like to let you know about that. You can check his user talk page but I copy my first message here:

My name is Roger and I work at Pension Alamar in Barcelona. I write you this message to request if we can be included again in the list of Hostals and Pensions located in Ciutat Vella.

We were listed on Wikivoyage in the main page of Barcelona since January 2007, and then changed into the section Sleep of Ciutat Vella since September 2007 and we were very glad to appear on the guide.

On last 24th February an Admin changed the order of the subsections: Hostels, Hotels, and Hostals and Pensions, and our pension was deleted may be for a mistake making the changes of the order, as we were listed after the title.

If is possible, we will be glad to appear again on the list of the accommodations located in Ciutat Vella. Thank you very much for your attention.

Regards,

Roger

Hi Roger! Yeah, it was me who deleted your listing, by mistake, sorry. But then, your listing wasn't compliant with the WT policies and subject to deletion anyway, now it's nice and useful.
Cheers!
PS. I'm no Admin, just a user. (WT-en) Jjtk 10:16, 16 March 2012 (EDT)

Vilnius Walking tours

[edit]

Dear Jjtk

We are a tour operator from Vilnius offering walking tours arround old town. Today our listing was removed from Vilnius page shortly after insertion. I've gone through Project:Activity listings#Tours policy page and read all discussion whether to include city tours in listings. Though there is already a defined policy, people from talk page have different opinions about it.

We are a small city and don't have many walking tours here. If to be precise, only two operators including us offer regular walking tours. Similar situation is with Tallinn. This small city has included all Walking Tour operators in a dedicated section.

So, why not to do the same for Vilnius?

Best wishes,

(WT-en) Magelanokeliones 23:16, 21 May 2012 (GMT)

Hi!
The discussion is still going about the tours and since it's not finished we use the established policy that no tours without 'added value' should be listed. Fact that Tallinn article was overlooked by editors is no excuse to add policy-breaking listings to other articles.
Please join the discussion at Project:Activity listings#Tours policy and state your reasons; the policy might be changed in future.
Cheers!

about Venice mainland

[edit]

Hi I don't know if it's correct to write here to communicate with you but I don't know other ways to do it. We are "undoing" each other on Venice page about the adding of a Bed & Breakfast of Venice mainland. You said that it's not correct to insert Venice Airport accommodations in Venice page because it's "not Venice".

But Venice Airport zone is Venice municipality, it's Venice mainland. Venice is not only the Venice island. Ok you said that Mestre too it's Venice municipality but it has another wikivoyage page. It's an ambiguous situation.

I want say that the name of the airport is "Venice Airport Marco Polo", not "Mestre Airport". Moreover Wikivoyage's aim is to help and give informations to travellers. You think that for a traveller who wants to visit Venice it can't be useful to know about accommodations in front of Venice Airport? For a good price besides.

sorry for my English :)

Luca1919

Hi!
You see, we have a big problem with Venice article and its sleep listings, you can see that our "manual of style" tag appears at the beginning of sleep section and we believe there is too many listings already. Also the article is about historic city only and that's why we don't allow listings from mainland Venice or Lido.
Wikivoyage is about helping travellers, but long, long, long lists of hotels aren't helping, that's why we have geographic fragmentation. My advice is to list your B&B in Mestre since it's the closest destination that has a page.
I'll add a line to Venice article that cheaper accommodation is to be found on mainland, strange that it's not already there.

PS I see nothing wrong with your English, but then, I'm Polish ;)

BIKO Prague

[edit]

Hi Jjtk, nice to meet you! My name is Filippo and I work with BIKO in Prague. I saw that you cancelled our listing and I would like to express our point of view. We read all the policy about the tours. That is why I took the freedom to add BIKO in the Prague page as I think it is not something that the traveller can do alone. In fact we offer real mountain bike tours around Prague and most of our tracks are impossible to find if you are a normal traveller as we put together an incredible number of singltracks not signaled in maps or common website. There is no way for a traveller to start from the center and ride 30 kms of singltrecks alone. Our trips are from mountain bike enthusiast to mountain bike enthusiast. Also we have mountain bike worthy 2000 euro because it is the only way to ride those rocky trails. It is not easy to estabilish a business for niches like this, as you can imagine it is not a cash cow, so we would really appreciate to be on the page. If you have any doubts I would like to invite you for a demo ride so you can make sure that what I say is true, after all you are not so faraway from Prague! Thank you very much for your attention, Filippo

P.s. Here you can find a short text that a customer from New York posted on our wall on our Facebook BIKO Adventures Prague fan page: Filippo, your Great Escapes tour was truly EIPIC. How you managed to stitch together 3+ hours of primo singletrack right in the center of Prague is remarkable. I think I saw more of Prague than most natives have seen and am impressed at both the quality and quantity of singletrack available within biking distance of the city center.

Thank you again Jjtk

Hi Filippo!
Your explanation sounds reasonable, so I'll revert my deletion. Actually you should have given this explanation in Talk:Prague cause another contributor may delete your listing again for the same reason I did. And while we're here, could you update your listing with some contact info and prices, it looks kinda bare with just the link. See Project:Activity_listings.
Thanks for the invitation! Maybe, maybe... ;)
(WT-en) Jjtk 16:40, 17 July 2012 (EDT)

Thank you Jjtk, I am happy you understand. I am a traveller, backpacker, couchsurfer and I care for the community. I will do as you say for the info. Filippo
