Welcome

[edit]

Hello, Mrs esterhauzen! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Project:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub.

Thanks for your contributions to the various Hawaii articles! -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 21:01, 6 December 2009 (EST)

[edit]

To combat spam and for other reasons the external links policy for Wikivoyage is fairly strict. As a result I've removed the link that was added in this edit since the policy is that links to other travel guides should not be included. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 20:51, 6 February 2010 (EST)

Not all external links are bad - when listing a hotel, restaurant, museum, etc then including the URL is good, but links to booking sites and other travel guides aren't allowed per the external links policy. I've removed a couple of other links from the Oahu article that are inappropriate per your comments on my talk page. -- (WT-en) Ryan (talk) 21:09, 6 February 2010 (EST)
Also if you find anything that have been copied verbatim from another website, please by all means help us get rid of it. Though, be careful it's actually not something that has been lifted from Wikivoyage originally, since this is often the case. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 13:54, 7 February 2010 (EST)

Regarding this edit, links such as that one will always get removed eventually since they are not in accordance with the Project:External links policy. No one is questioning whether their information is good or not, but over the years the guidelines that have been created for external links are pretty clear, and links to external guides are explicitly called out as something that is not appropriate for Wikivoyage; the policy page (and its talk page) contain further details and the reasoning that led to the current policy. -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 15:19, 8 April 2010 (EDT)
