Hello, Sibiryak! Welcome to Wikivoyage. You can edit your preferences to change how the software works for you. Please take a second to look at our copyleft and policies and guidelines, but feel free to plunge forward and edit some pages. Scanning the Manual of style, especially the article templates, can give you a good idea of how we like articles formatted. If you're new to our wiki software, MediaWiki, look at the Wiki markup to get an idea of how to edit a page. If you need help, check out the help desk, and if you need some info not on there, post a message in the travellers' pub.

Thanks for your work on places in Siberia -- a region this large and important deserves better coverage than we've given it so far. Spasibo, and keep it up! -- (WT-en) Bill-on-the-Hill 00:11, 7 December 2006 (EST)

Agreed! Great work! --(WT-en) Evan 07:58, 7 December 2006 (EST)

Singapore in Russian?

[edit]

Hi. So, it looks like your user page is now a translation of the en: Singapore page into Russian. We have a project to get a Russian-language Wikivoyage version started; see project:Russian Wikivoyage Expedition. I think we're about ready to start; what we need is someone to act as a liaison, keeping the Russian Wikivoyage connected to the rest of the project. If you'd be willing to take that role, I'd love to start Russian Wikivoyage ASAP. --(WT-en) Evan 10:42, 15 February 2007 (EST)

Hello!

[edit]

Hello Sibiryak! I have a strong interest in Siberia, although I haven't had the opportunity to visit, and would really like to see improvement in our Siberia guide. If you think it will be helpful, please feel free to ask me for help with anything on my talk page. On another topic altogether, where are you from--if you don't mind saying ;)

--(WT-en) Peter Talk 02:02, 29 June 2007 (EDT)

Здравствуйте, Peter. Yep, I have been and will be occasionally contributing to Siberia-related articles, both here and in -pedia, mostly in English though some in Russian. I do actually have a question. How/why was it decided to split Russia into Federal Districts on WikiTravel? These are just politically convenient units of the moment, and can easily change with a change of government (i.e. the president). They have little to do with regional characteristics, ethnic groupings, natural terrain -- all the things which are important to travelers. Organizing a Russian travel guide this way is akin to writing a U.S. guide based on the Federal Reserve Bank districts. :) I'd like to propose a more relevant way to subdivide the country, and can provide a list of regions, but cannot produce maps. Where should I do this? Thanks!
As for the other topic -- I'm from Omsk, Siberia. --(WT-en) Sibiryak 02:42, 29 June 2007 (EDT)
Well the decision to use the federal districts as top-level regions was mine alone, since no one else showed much interest in organizing the Russia content at the time. I used them mostly as a matter of convenience, but the lower level regions generally are more coherent. I'm definitely interested to see your proposal and I can help with maps. Direct your proposal to Talk:Russia/Geographic Hierarchy where we can discuss. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 03:06, 29 June 2007 (EDT)
