Templates

Did you know you can quickly copy standard templates from those listed in Project:Article templates? I noticed you are using an out of date version of a template for some of your recent articles. In particular the latest Wikivoyage templates do not have an External links section at the bottom any more. -- (WT-en) Huttite 02:40, 7 Jan 2006 (EST)

Comino page

Hey man thanks for the pics and map, they're really good! I was wondering though about the map, I'm now putting some stuff on Gozo together and would like to know where you found it as I'd like to put up one for Gozo as well. (WT-en) PeterW 13:15, 2 Feb 2006 (CET)

Hi Peter - pleased you liked the map. I had to create it from scratch, using the process as lined out in the Wikivoyage Mapmaking Expedition based on pictures from Google Earth. If you have a vector based drawing tool such as Inkscape (what I used to create the Comino map, and free to download from the Internet) you can create a Gozo map yourself, perhaps using the Comino map as a template (the Image file page has a link to the source SVG file) or the Lanzarote map which I have also created. It's a bit fiddly to start with, but once you get the hang of it the process becomes quite straightforward. The style chosen is my own - it is a hybrid between the CIA style maps for each country and the city maps that a number of users (with more patience than me :-) ) have created. As such, there is no hard and fast rule that I have followed. If you don't fancy trying your hand at it, let me know as a map of Gozo is on my long term to do list in any case (I could do it sooner if requested). (WT-en) StuartEdwards 22:37, 2 Feb 2006 (EST)

Hey Stuart, yeah thanks for the reminder! my attention hasn't been with wikivoyage for a couple of weeks now. Well, I have no experience with any real graphics software, although I'm going to be learning a fair bit about Adobe for my new job in a couple of weeks. So possibly my reticence will thaw out after that, but right now I don't see myself doing this yet. So to be honest I'm glad you've got Gozo on your list, particularly as it's ofcourse a more complex map to make, and would find it really cool, if you have time, when you put one together. Licensing

Hi Stuart, could you please add a license to the Lanzarote map you have created? Currently it is under threat of deletion because it lacks license information. I would like to see the image stay here in Wikivoyage, as I have used it in the Lanzarote article on Finnish version of WikiTravel. -- 195.74.26.195 11:36, 21 August 2007 (EDT)
