Hello! Welcome to Wikivoyage. If you want to specialize your experience you may want to consider editing your preferences. Please take a second to look at our copyleft and policies and guidelines, but feel free to plunge forward and edit some pages. Scanning the manual of style, especially the article templates, can give you a good idea of how we like articles formatted. If you're new to the whole wiki software look at the wiki markup to get an idea of how to use the wiki markup. If you need help, check out Project:Help, and if you need some info not on there, post a message in the travellers' pub.

Good to see you here too, and thanks for your contributions to Singapore! -- (WT-en) Jpatokal 07:04, 11 October 2006 (EDT)

Pictures

[edit]

Wikivoyage generally uses less pictures than Wikipedia, see Project:Image policy. A few high-quality pics are preferred to a huge slew of low-quality ones. (WT-en) Jpatokal 07:21, 11 October 2006 (EDT)

First, please upload to wts:Wikivoyage Shared, it's our equivalent of Commons. (Edit: I see you already did, so nevermind!) Second, we don't usually do more than one picture of anything, especially something as boring as shopping malls. Third, I personally hate overexposed images (like and -- see how the sky is so white it bleeds into the buildings?) and would much prefer nothing at all... That said, the Japanese Wikivoyage uses a lot more pictures than the English one does, so please do feel free to upload (almost) anything to Shared. Also, if you really want to help out, the Chinese Wikivoyage Expedition (the project to launch Wikivoyage in Chinese) could use a helping hand -- we really need somebody like you who can write both Chinese and English well. Re: your msg on IRC, unfortunately overexposure can't be corrected with Photoshop the overexposed parts are maxed out (pure white) and thus have no data left. There's only one solution: don't shoot against the light when taking pictures... (WT-en) Jpatokal 11:11, 11 October 2006 (EDT)

Hi

Cities vs towns

[edit]

The template says "Cities", so we use "cities" even if the Malaysian Department of Paper-Pushing doesn't agree. Remember, the traveller comes first, and we do occasionally sacrifice encyclopedic accuracy in pursuit of this goal... (WT-en) Jpatokal 01:25, 16 November 2006 (EST)
