User talk:(WT-en) Walterpoupaert
Hello, Walterpoupaert! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Project:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. -- (WT-en) felix 08:49, 18 March 2011 (EDT)
Hi Walter, my apologies I have removed your 2 clearly in good faith edits from the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park article. There are a couple of problems.
- Firstly you have added content to the Do section that offers a 'first person' point of view or account. For example "From the place where we live we are able to see the smoke coming out of the crater."
- The content in the Do section has issues in that you are not established as an independent or credible source. That would be for example provided by Pusat Vulkanologi & Mitigasi Bencana Geologi. I am not of course suggesting that you are not credible rather it is just a policy matter. If you want to list such a service it could be attached to a normal commercial listing. If you are running Bromo treks then you would add it to that, also provides a daily area status report. (walterpoupaert@gmail.com) There is also nothing stopping you from making regular contributions that include objective commentary on the eruptive situation.
Your recent edit could read like this after removing the 1st person account style:
In February 2011 the crater could be approached to a distance of 1 km. The eruptive status remained too dangerous to descend into the caldera during February and March 2011 and smoke could still be seen rising out of the crater. Generally the more brown the smoke is, the more the volcano is active. Although the eruptive activity of early 2011 has subsided the area surrounding Teggara Caldera should still be approached with considerable caution.
I fully understand that you are editing in good faith and your input into the article is both welcomed and useful if it can be re-worked in such a way that is conforms to general WT policies.
Please do rewrite your content and put it back into the article and do keep contributing. If you are concerned that any of your early edits and contributions may have issues with any WT policies then place the content your are wishing to put into the article here on your talk page first or possibly better still put it on the articles discussion page so others can see it as well. If you are clearly trying to make constructive contributions other editors more experienced with the policies and guidelines most likely will assist you to get started.
In looking at your posts on lonely planet I note the that you offer accommodation services in Kota Batu. I could not see a Sleep listing in that article that readily identified with you although I only looked very quickly. If you have not yet listed your business there then have a preliminary read of welcome to business owners and do list in the appropriate article for your location (I am assuming this would be Batu). There should be no issue with putting the Bromo advice tag onto your accom listing as well including the multi lingual aspect of it. You are also at liberty to mention that you can organise Bromo (and any other) trips as part of that Sleep section listing. If you need some assistance go to the Wikivoyage travellers' pub and ask for assistance or leave a message here.
I get the impression that you offer treks in the Bromo park. If you are just booking someone else's treks then you are a booking agent and cannot list other than as a tag onto your own accommodation listing if' you establish one in Sleep-Bromo. However if you are running and organising the treks yourselves then please consider listing in the article 'Do section. Have a look at the Mount Rinjani article as that has some mountain trek providers listed and could be a useful guideline for you.
I hope the information above can assist and welcome to Wikivoyage-- (WT-en) felix 08:49, 18 March 2011 (EDT)

[edit]Hi Walter, I have left a response to you on my talk page. Please do not be put off just read the help articles. -- (WT-en) felix 07:31, 28 March 2011 (EDT)
- Hi Walter, It seems you are not understanding what is going on here. Maybe you have not found your Talk page however as you have found mine I must assume that you are able to locate your own. If so I wonder why you have not understood either the detail provided for you above or on the relative Wikivoyage guideline pages. I have left a detailed response to your post on my own talk page and I hope you will go there and read both it and the guideline article links provided there. Walter no one is trying to wipe away your well intentioned efforts but if you wish to list a business activity you must comply with the appropriate WT policies. If you wish to contribute content that does not relate to your own business activities that is also good but it also must comply with style, formatting and content guidelines as described in the manual of style. -- (WT-en) felix 22:27, 7 April 2011 (EDT)
The French Mont Bromo article is one of the worst pieces of editing I have seen on WT
[edit]Walter Poupaert, Your edits to the French language version of the Mont Bromo article are simply appalling.
What on earth has possessed you to take it upon yourself to execute a crude on-line translator modified copy of the English language Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park page image and just dump it into the article shell. You have not even made a token effort to edit it correctly or apply any standard WT article formatting. What is worse rather than copy and pasting the content with mark-up and formatting you have just copied the page displayed content. Hence it carries page display artefact rather than formatting mark up. It is a profound mess.
I have recommended the French article for deletion. If you do not want to see it deleted then I suggest you go back to it and start translating and formatting it correctly.
I also note that you have taken the liberty of adding in some self promotional information about yourself including a touting tour guide reference and your email address. For all the reasons that is inappropriate on the English language version of the article it is equally inappropriate on the French language version. I suggest that you remove the self promotional material from the French article as well and follow the recommendations I have already provided to you regarding the English language article. Please make an effort to understand the editing guidelines in any language and please do not edit any further until you have done so. -- (WT-en) felix 04:39, 8 April 2011 (EDT)
