Touting[edit]

Dear User:77.166.75.226,

Hello .. I have apologised for not understanding that these pages are properly maintained now, and will not offend you by editing further. Please leave my listing for my B&B in place now and offer me the same chance as other small business to advertise my personnal B&B to people.

Thanks, Kerk

Touting and removing competitor business listings is forbidden on Wikivoyage, and you have clearly violated these rules on the Amsterdam page multiple times. Please stop these activities or your user account will have to be placed on Wikivoyage's block list. Also remember that Amsterdam has several districts, new listings will have to be placed in the relevant district articles.

Also, we would appreciate it if you would create an account and identify yourself as a business owner. This way it is clear for everyone whether you give your own business prevalence over other business listings. Please see: Welcome, business owners. --(WT-en) globe-trotter 11:25, 9 January 2010 (EST)

Your hotel is now included in Amsterdam/Grachtengordel, with all touting and other advertisement lingo removed. Please don't tout and do not include your hotel in the other districts, as those listings will be removed. --(WT-en) globe-trotter 12:08, 10 January 2010 (EST)
Please catch on, or we'll have to blacklist your business altogether. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 09:53, 12 January 2010 (EST)
Again, only one entry per business, and your listing is already in another district, please stop. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 14:20, 12 January 2010 (EST)

The text in the 'Sleep' section (before it was altered by me) and the wonderful map on the main Amsterdam page unfortunately discrimniates against small business like mine who are not in the 'old centre' which appears to the page visitor to be the 'best' place to stay if you really want to see the old city ?

I noticed the drop in traffic to my B&B site as soon as the format was changed. When I added my B&B to the old centre page I immediately got 2 booking requests.

I do not intentionally spoil your wonderful work here. I am merely trying to rebalance the discrimination that the new format presents to small businesses offering quality accomodation that are not in the 'old centre'.

Why did we need to set up the inner city in these sections anyway .. grachtengordel is a word that only makes sense to a dutch person .. maybe canal rings is more english speaker friendly ?

Thanks, Kerk

A couple of points, please address the blacklisting before re-adding yourself, I'm very open to removing it, if you promise to stop listing yourself in multiple articles.
You are welcome to suggest a new name for the district here here, but neither in name or in breaking up Amsterdam into districts, should the interrests of business owners be a point to consider. I'm sorry if you are loosing business, I really had no idea Wikivoyage was that effective, but The traveller comes first around here, if writers want to continue devoloping the guide this way, it's their call to make. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 03:33, 22 January 2010 (EST)

Hello - thanks for talking to me .. OK I can stop fratically editing pages to try to keep my business visible now htat I understand how the pages are being quality controlled. I understand the format of the pages now and how you want them to be divided. Can I only ask that the sleep section not only suggest that the old centre and south are worthy places to stay and that the grachtengordel is also mentioned .. along with the Jordaan area as these areas are where 'healthy dynamics' exist in the community and these are the areas of Amsterdam that we feel most represent aspects of our culture that we are most proud of and want visitors to see. The old centre is in the process of being cleaned up via the 1012 project (more here http://www.iamsterdam.com/en/pressroom/city-of-amsterdam-pressroom/quality) !

Thanks, Kerk culture

If you feel confident that you can follow the guidelines at Project:Don't tout, I would encourage you to go ahead and make the edits to the main Amsterdam#Sleep article yourself. That's not an ok place to plug your business, but local, general knowledge of the area is always appreciated. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 18:38, 22 January 2010 (EST)
I don't see any issues in the Sleep section, it does mention the Grachtengordel area as having charming boutique accommodations. About the name: there is no English name for the area. Maybe after consensus we could try to create our self-thought-of English name, such as Canal Belt (literal translation) or Canal Ring. But as sertmann wrote, better do proposals at Talk:Amsterdam#Districts Map. --(WT-en) globe-trotter 14:17, 24 January 2010 (EST)
