How to make Wikivoyage content accessible to humans, particularly to people who have some form of disability, whether or not they use assistive software.

This page is about formatting content on Wikivoyage articles. For information about physical accessibility regarding travel, see Travellers with disabilities.

As a guiding principle, we should aim to meet WCAG 2.0, which is an ISO standard for web accessibility, to its level "AA", and to "AAA" where practical.

Formatting[edit]

Lists[edit]

WikiMarkup uses asterisks ("*") to form HTML lists. To be fully accessible, these must be correctly formatted, without blank lines between list items. So:

* {{see | ... }}
* {{see | ... }}
* {{see | ... }}

not:

* {{see | ... }}

* {{see | ... }}

* {{see | ... }}

To create an indented second-level list, use multiple asterisks. Indenting using colons looks visually similar, but the structure is different and incorrect. Format it like this:

* Item
** Detail
** Detail
* Item

not:

* Item
:* Detail
:* Detail
* Item
