Wikivoyage talk:Large city article template

So, I think it's going to be important for most large cities to split up into multiple articles.

The question becomes: how do we do that? I'd think that there are two possibilities:

1. Break up the city into districts (see the geographical hierarchy) and do mini-articles on each of those. Those might be sub-articles (such as New York/Greenwich Village) or just articles on their own (e.g. Greenwich Village).
2. Break up the article into thematic groups. That is, instead of having a "See" section in New York (addressed by New York (city)#See, btw), we'd have a subarticle New York/See, or something like See in New York.

In either case, we should probably pick out the sections that would go into the "main" article (like New York) and which ones would go into the subarticles. It's a tricky business, though. -- (WT-en) Evan 14:54, 9 Oct 2003 (PDT)

Gar, I just wrote a big long thing here and then lost the page... anyway, my point was that we should pick one and then have cross indexing via the other. My vote is for breaking thinsg up by district so all the New York (city)/Greenwich Village) stuff is on the same page, but then also have links to New York (city)/Greenwich Village) from under the Eat section (for example) since it's a good place to think about eatting if you're looking at options in all of NYC.

This makes a lot of sense for the Sleep section as well. A planner can look at the New York page and get a sense of where a good places to stay and then go to those pages to read about what else is in the area. Alternately, someone on the road is already in New York (city)/Greenwich Village) they can find everything they need. I'm sure there are some people who want to find a place to eat somewhere in all of New York with no preference for where it is, but I think that's less likely than the other to cases. Hm, maybe, but I feel that the "DO" section rather contains activities you can do mostly all the time, while festivals, fairs, etc. are more a kind of special events.
