How to make a better Olympics article
[edit]These Olympics articles haven't been great in the past so I'm curious to know what ideas are out there for making a better Olympic article. My preliminary thoughts are to treat it as a travel topic that would be printed along with the host city article. The Olympics article would focus on the venues, related activities, Olympic specific transit issues (e.g., for Vancouver, you won't be able to drive to certain venues, you have to take specific buses) and anything else that is different about the city while the Olympics are on. Standard stuff -- like getting in, where to eat, hotel listings, etc. -- would be in the Vancouver and Whistler articles and would be linked to from the Olympics article. Those are just some pretty quick thoughts I had... any other ideas? -(WT-en) Shaund 01:50, 20 July 2009 (EDT)
- Those thoughts were about what I had, too. Sounds like a good tack to take. Fortunately, travel topics can be pretty free-form, so you have a lot of flexibility. (WT-en) LtPowers 06:35, 20 July 2009 (EDT)
- Some more exhaustive explanations (than our normal ones) on how to get to the different venues might be in order too. At least that would be something I would find useful. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) Talk 07:55, 20 July 2009 (EDT)
- Cool. That's a good point about better explanations on how to get to venues. There are a large number of road closures planned, so standard directions won't always work. (WT-en) Shaund 01:11, 21 July 2009 (EDT)
- And public transit, as on unfathomable this may be to North Americans, I suspect most overseas visitors are going to try and cope with public transit rather than renting a car :o) --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) Talk 08:53, 22 July 2009 (EDT)
