Yellapur is a city in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. It is located in the Western Ghats section of Karnataka.

Get in[edit]

By bus[edit]

Yellapur is located on the state highway between Hubli and Karwar. The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation has daily buses connecting Yellapur to Hubli, Sirsi, Karwar, Mangalore. Private buses also connect Yellapur to these places.

By train[edit]

The nearest railway stations are Hubli, Ankola. Both of them are well connected to all major parts of India.

By plane[edit]

There is no airport in Yellapur. The nearest airport is in Hubli (HBX IATA).

Get around[edit]

Local rickshaws are available. To travel around best option would be to hire a local taxi from any of the travel agents.

Sathodi Falls[edit]

Sathodi Falls is located at a distance of 25 km from the town of Yellapur. On the outskirts of Yellapura, traveling towards Hubli, is the left turn that leads to Sathodi. Part of the road is an all-weather road but a portion, last 5 km, is a dirt road. Near the end of the rainy season is the best time to visit as the falls will be in full glory and road will be motorable. Using four-wheel drive vehicles or high ground clearance vehicles is recommended for visits during rainy season.
A lake called Kodasalli Reservoir is located just few meters before the falls.

Magod Falls[edit]

Magod Falls is located 19 km away from Yellapura, in the village of Magodu. From Yellapur, travelling towards Ankola, is the left turn that leads to Magod. Here, the Bedthi river takes two distinct leaps to hurtle from a height of 650 ft. into a rocky ravine. Bedthi river originates from Unkal Lake in Hubli. There is no path to get down to the bottom of the falls.
Around the falls there are other attractions like, a sunset point called Jenu Kallu Gudda where you can see a beautiful view of the sun set. On the way from Yellapura to Magod falls, there is a lake in the midst of a forest called Kavdi Kere. A temple called Gali Ganapathi 6 km from falls.

There aren't many options available to stay. Best would be to stay in Sirsi, which is about 50 km from Yellapur.
