Desouk (دسوق) is a city in Lower Egypt with 150,000 people (2021). Desouk is renowned for the presence of Ibrahim El Desouki Mosque, which attracts over a million visitors annually on average.

Desouk lies in the Nile Delta about 80 km east of Alexandria. Back in ancient Egypt, Desouk dates back to at least c. 3200 BC and was part of the ancient city of Buto before the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt.

Get in

There are many daily trains from Desouk to other cities in Egypt, especially in the north. Taxis and buses are also available. The journey takes 2½-3 hours from Cairo and less than an hour from Alexandria, depending on traffic.
