Hawthorne is a city of 3,300 people in Nevada at the south end of Walker Lake.

Hawthorne and its adjacent former town Babbitt provide housing for the nearby Hawthorne Army Depot (switching to Mapnik on the map settings below clearly demonstrates this). The depot stores munitions in widely-spaced bunkers in reserve for a major conflict.

Get in

[edit]

By plane

[edit]

The town has its own airport 1 Hawthorne Industrial Airport (HTH  IATA), though this facility seems to be used to transport goods rather than passengers.

The nearest city with an airport is Reno and therefore the 2 Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO IATA) would be recommended for commercial flights.

Gambling

[edit]
If you win...

Chances are that, if you win it big in Hawthorne and you are not a U.S. citizen your winnings will be subject to a 30% withholding tax from the Internal Revenue Service. That $10,000 slot winning can dwindle quite quickly if that is taken off the top. Not to worry though you can reclaim your gambling winnings tax through a 1042-S form. You should get this from the casino so don't lose it: it is your starting ticket to getting your gambling winnings back.

Hawthorne is a small, rural town. Don't expect the usual large hotel-casinos of other Nevadan towns.
