Itaituba is a city of about 101,000 people (2020) in Pará. It sits on the west bank of the Tapajós River

Slow Boats leave Santarém from the Praça Tiradentes port only at Fridays 16:00. The ride takes 14 to 17 hours and costs R$50. The return from Itaituba is on every Monday.

Fast boats leave daily at 10:00 and take 7 hours and cost R$120 as of January 2023.

There are fast boats to Itaituba from Santarém.

  • Princesa do Tapajós: Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 13:00. About R$70 to R$80.
  • Veloz: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

By car[edit]

Itaituba is on the Transamazônica highway and is connected by road to Cuiabá and Porto Velho.

If driving to Itaituba from Santarém or from the east, the ferry ride across the river will cost R$20 per car, regardless of number of passengers.

Itaituba is a good base for exploring the Amazônia National Park, about 50 km to the west.
