Necoclí is a small village on the Gulf of Urabá on the northern Caribbean coast of Colombia.

Understand

[edit]

For most travelers, Necoclí is only a necessary stop on the way from Panama into Colombia, taking a boat from Capurganá here.

By boat

From Capurganá boats go frequently to Necoclí for US$42 (2024). Boats go two ways, so travellers who want to bypass the Darien Gap to cross the border into Panama can hire a boat here for COP$175,000.

  • 1 Volcán de Lodo (cross some fields were cattle is grazing to the east of the town; there are no signs along the path and you must cross several gates -- there are few locals to ask along the way, so it is probably easiest if you bring a map.). A mud volcano with several bubbling ponds of gray mud. It is a short hike out of town. Free.

Buses leave every 30 minutes to Medellín from the early morning until 9PM (COP$70,000-75,000.) Instead of buying your ticket at the office for COP$70,000 you can also talk to the drivers and they might be able to pick you up a few blocks down the road and take you to Medellín for as little as COP$50,000.
