Pleumeur-Bodou is a small commune in the Côtes-d'Armor department on the north coast of Brittany. It sits in the middle of the Pink Granite coast, which is well known for its spectacular scenery. It lies between Brest and Saint-Brieuc, in the immediate vicinity of Lannion and Perros-Guirec. The Pink Granite Coast is unique because of its pink-tinted rocks with astonishing shapes: its coastal paths, beaches and preserved natural sites are among the most beautiful in France.

Understand

[edit]

In 2021, it was home to 3,800 people.

It has more than 17 km of seafront dotted with three coastal villages: L'Île Grande, the Landrellec peninsula, and Kérénoc. Its coast is dotted with islets and picturesque little ports, but also beaches, coves and protected natural areas, accessible by numerous paths for pedestrians, horse riders or mountain bikers. Due to the tides, which are very pronounced in this region, the landscapes vary according to the time of day, with the sea uncovering and then covering a good part of the coastline each day.

Natural sites

[edit]
  • The Kervoalan salt marsh on the south side of the island looks like a meadow covered with a carpet of vegetation.
  • The tip of Kastell Erek is a protected natural site, and a former granite quarry. The panorama is very extensive from the particularly exposed rocky point. Offshore is the Triagoz lighthouse, built in gray granite from Ile-Grande. The storms there are spectacular.
  • Keryvon Bay: depending on whether you go there at high tide or low tide, the landscape will be totally different. When it spreads out, the sea seems to definitively cover its domain and when it withdraws the impression of a desert expanse dotted with pebbles and rocks is astonishing.
  • The Landrellec Peninsula: tge Bringwiller moors (property of the coastal conservatory) open onto a vast marine horizon, the low rocky coasts of offer a landscape of exceptional magnitude. In turn carpeted with dunes, strewn with maritime lawns, low moors and meadows, they decline throughout the year sumptuous blue, green, pink, blond and yellow colors. Camargue horses graze the moors and meadows. Go by the footpath to discover the whole site. Two islets are accessible at low tide Jaouen, covered with low vegetation and * * Ile Plate: an old granite quarry: a large sandy beach runs along the northern part of the peninsula. It stops abruptly at the Pointe de Landrellec which shelters a small port of the same name. Splendid panoramas of the Ile Grande to the 7Iles. See also the heterogeneous houses and villas in the hamlet
  • The Bois de Lann ar Waremm (warren moors): this young forest (300 hectares), the largest in coastal Trégor, is a protected natural site. It developed with the gradual abandonment of agricultural land and today constitutes a mosaic of environments for a large and varied fauna. The roe deer introduced in 1986 finds ideal conditions for its development there. Many birds including the woodcock which spends the winter there. The wood contains a significant flora: oaks and birches in the most humid areas, beeches and chestnut trees on the drier soils.
