Askim is a municipality in the county of Østfold, Norway. Askim centre had 13,822 inhabitants in 2014. It lies next to the longest river in Norway, Glomma, and has always been a strategic point in wars due to its bridges across the river. It is situated about 50 kilometres southeast of Oslo.

Traditionally, Askim is an industrial town. Together with the three hydroelectric power stations, Glava, producing glass wool for insulation and the Viking-Askim tyre factory (closed down in 1991) have been the cornerstone industries.

Get in

You can get there by motorway, by taking the European route E18 or train from Oslo.

Get around

The centre of Askim is very small and you can easily get around by your feet. If you want to get out of the centre, you may walk or take a local bus.

Askim has three hydropower stations at Solbergfoss, Kykkelsrud and Vamma.

  • Østfoldbadet. is an indoor water park, attracting guests from as far away as Oslo.
