This small town, 44 miles SE of Abilene, was the home of Robert E. Howard, best known as the creator of Conan the Barbarian.

From Abilene, take TX-36 southeast 44 miles to Cross Plains. From Fort Worth, take I-20 west 107 miles to exit 330 at Cisco. Take TX-206 21 miles south to Cross Plains.
