Asia > Southeast Asia > Malaysia > West Coast (Malaysia) > Kedah > Kuala Kedah

Kuala Kedah, located on the coast about 12 km from Alor Setar is a busy fishing village with great seafood. Beside Penang and Kuala Perlis it is a major port to the island of Langkawi.

Understand

Ferries to Langkawi leave every hour from the early morning, the last service is at 7:30 pm, one way ticket costs RM23 (2010).

Ferries arrive to Kuala Kedah Jetty Terminal, from where you can take taxis in all directions. The taxi fare to Butterworth (Penang) is RM 47 (2010). With a bit of luck, you can share a taxi with other passengers.

The cheapest way to move on from here, apart from walking, is the city bus. Go to the main road opposite the harbor building. Pass the big parking lot on the right. On the corner in front of the coffee shop the bus will stop. It is RM1 to Alor Setar, where express buses are leaving in all directions.
