• 1 Ancient Pella. The wealthy capital of the kingdom of Macedon in the time of Alexander the Great. Now you can visit the archeological site as well as a museum housing the more interesting finds. Locate about 40km west of Thessaloniki, you can get here via the Thessaloniki-Giannitsa bus which runs about twice an hour (schedule). The bus lets you off at a road junction a 1km walk from the site. (updated Sep 2015)
