Bangassou is the capital of the Mbomou prefecture in the Central African Republic. Situated on the river Mbomou and at a stones-throw from the border with the neighbouring Democratic Republic of the Congo, Bangassou has been repeatedly tangled up in rebellion fights, including as recently as 2013.
It is however known for the wildlife in the surrounding area and for its market. The city is home to an estimated number of 31.000 people.
