  • The Minaret of Jam - an enormous and oddly located minaret in the small village of Jam.

Itineraries

  • The Central Route - this is a 4-6 day very rough journey between Herat and Kabul, endured in Toyota HiAces. It takes you through some great scenery in the inhospitable mountains and gives you the chance to stop in Jam to see the Minaret of Jam, one of the most off-the-beaten path sites in the country and some say well worth the sidetrip.
  • The Northern Route to Mazar - this 2- to 3-day trip is considered dangerous and is not recommended.

  • Iran - Herat is the nearest major city to the border and the place to launch a journey into Persia.
This region travel guide to West Afghanistan is an outline and may need more content. It has a template, but there is not enough information present. If there are Cities and Other destinations listed, they may not all be at usable status or there may not be a valid regional structure and a "Get in" section describing all of the typical ways to get here.
