Koyilandy or Quilandy/Quilandi is a town in Kozhikode District, in the Malabar region of Kerala, India. The population is 72,000.

Koyilandy is a very sleepy town. Tourists never come to this place even though the paddy fields and beaches are very attractive.

Get in

Koyilandy Train Station

Trains are available from all parts of India to Koyilandy. Buses are available from Kozhikode and Kannur. The nearest airport is at Kondotty-Kozhikode, 50 km.

Get around

Autorikshaws charge ₹15.00 per km and buses are even cheaper at only ₹7.00 for three km.

  • 3 Kappad Beach (7 km towards Kozhikode side). Vasco de Gama arrived in India at this place. There is a memorial and a park in this beautiful beach.
  • Korappuzha Bridge, Kozhikode Bypass Road (15 km). This 480-metre bridge is the longest bridge in Kozhikode district. Completed in 2015, it has 13 spans. The surroundings are lush, green and very photogenic.

  • Koyilandy Halva. This very sweet and colorful solid stuff made from maida (highly refined wheat) is available at a few shops near Palayam Junction and comes in various flavors, such as banana, ghee, coconut, cashew, date, tender coconut, pineapple and jack-fruit. However, karutha haluva (black haluva) made from rice is the most popular variety. If you are health conscious, simply keep away from all halvas.
  • Koyilandy Hookah, +91 496-2623151. Koyilandy hookahs, traditional smoking pipes, are famous across North India, the Gulf and Pakistan. Prepared by Moosari, a coppersmith community, these Hookahs were once considered a pride of Koyilandy.The craft owes it origin to a group of Yemeni merchants who had taken up residence at Koyilandy about 500 years ago. They commissioned the local craftsmen to make hookah, an object of oriental culture. Made by local craftsmen, the Hookah impressed Yemeni traders and soon came to be known as Koyilandy Hookah. Besides being ornately designed with attractive motifs, the Koyilandy Hookahs have a coconut shell as the water holder. Even today, these hookahs are exported to gulf countries.
