Dauphin is the eighth largest city in the province of Manitoba, and is located in the Prairie Mountain region, with around 8,500 people (2016).

A three-day event held annually since 1965 to showcase of Ukrainian culture: food, dance, music, ceremonies, arts, and crafts. The Selo Ukraina site, home to the festival, takes place in a natural amphitheatre set into the side of Riding Mountain National Park.
