Shaktoolik is a very small village along Norton Sound. This community has been moved twice because of encroaching seas, a result of global warming that has melted a lot of Arctic ice.

Get in

You can get in via:

  • the Iditarod Trail, which is recommended
  • the Shaktoolik Airport, which is served by Bering Air to nearby communities and Nome, which is served by Alaska Airlines. Ravn Alaska, which operated here, filed for bankruptcy. You should contact the travel agency or your airline.
