Appearance
The Green Kalahari is a district in the Northern Cape province of South Africa, bordering onto Namibia and Botswana. Previously known as Siyanda (meaning "we are growing"), the district was renamed "ZF Mgcawu District Municipality" in 2013 after Upington's first post-1994 democratically elected mayor, Zwelentlanga Fatman Mgcawu.
Towns
[edit]- 1 Kakamas — a fertile valley in the Lower Orange River, graced with vineyards, cotton and lucern fields
- 2 Keimoes — the nearby Tierberg ‘Tiger Mountain’ Nature Reserve is home to large aloes, numerous species of succulents, springbok and views of the Orange River Valley
- 3 Upington — a good starting point to the famous Augrabies Falls
Other destinations
[edit]- 1 Augrabies Falls — the waterfall is about 60 m high and is awe-inspiring when the river is in flood; the gorge below the falls averages about 240 m deep and runs for 18 km
- 2 Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park — a majestic and infinite desert landscape with migrating herds of wildebeest, gemsbok, springbok, eland, and predators like lions, cheetahs and leopards, and unending red dunes
