It is dedicated to the goddess of the flaming face. It is one of the 51 "Shakti Peeths" dispersed throughout the subcontinent and is believed by devotees to be the place where Sati's tongue had fallen. There is no statue or idol inside the temple but instead an everburning flame is enclosed within a dome.
