Saint-Alexis-des-Monts is a parish municipality of Maskinongé Region (MRC de Maskinongé), in Middle-Mauricie, Quebec, Canada. The municipal territory includes the townships of Belleau, Calonne and Hunterstown.
Saint-Alexis-des-Monts is the last village-relay before reaching the north side to the Mastigouche Wildlife Reserve. Its population of 3,100 inhabitants increases seasonally by another 3,000, as well as a floating population estimated between 8 and 10,000 visitors. This locality is crossed by road 349 which connects Saint-Didace to Louiseville, forming a semi-circle facing north.

Geography
[edit]Saint-Alexis-des-Monts has a territory of 1,153 km2 (445 sq mi). The Mastigouche wildlife reserve occupies 65% of the territory of the municipality of Saint-Alexis-des-Monts and more than half of the territory of the MRC.
The Lacacomie Lake (main body of water in municipal territory), its four islands and the surrounding mountains offer a wild landscape conducive to recreational and tourism activities. The village is nestled in a deep valley. According to the Place Names Bank of the Commission de toponymie du Québec, 331 bodies of water have a toponymic designation on the territory of the municipality; the toponyms of 92 bodies of water have been changed throughout history. This municipal territory also includes 18 streams with a toponymic designation.
Economy
[edit]In Saint-Alexis-des-Monts, the resort has especially become denser along the rivière du Loup, the Écorces river, around the village, along route 349, as well as around the lakes: Lambert, Sacacomie, "à La Perchaude", Bélanger and Lac du Pic Élevé. Outside the main village, the main hamlets are Gendron, Domaine Beauchesne, Domaine-Mont-Loisir, Domaine-des-Monts and Pincebec. The dwellings are mainly concentrated in the valleys of the three rivers crossing the territory.
The main economic activities are forestry, vacationing, hunting, fishing, and agriculture in the southern part. The offer of recreational tourism services in Saint-Alexis-des-Monts has an international reputation.

By car

Take highway 40 (north shore) eastbound; take Chemin Caron (northbound); take route 138 (eastbound) to the village of Louiseville; take Rang Barthélemy (northbound) which becomes Rang Waterloo, and join Route 349 (northbound) to the village of Saint-Alexis-des-Monts.
- From Quebec City (191 kilometres (119 mi), 2 hr 06 min). Take highway 40 (direction West); cross the city of Trois-Rivières; take Autoroute 55 (northbound) to Saint-Étienne-des-Grès; take Chemin des Dalles (westbound); take the 2nd row (northbound); take route 350 (westbound) to the village of Saint-Paulin; take road 349 (westbound) to the village of Maskinongé.

[edit]- Pont de broche (pont Branlant) (Spindle bridge (Branlant bridge)) (to the right of route 349 (near 981)). This pedestrian bridge was built in the fall of 1906 to replace the inter-rives ferry and allow students from rang St-Joseph to safely access school no. 2 (primary school) in Bas-de-la-Rivière located on the other side of the river (at the bottom of Rivière-du-Loup) throughout the school year. This bridge has been restored three times and kept in good condition in memory of the past generations who used it.
