Hatillo is a town and municipality of Puerto Rico located on the island's Atlantic coast, famous for its carnival, vejigantes and its dairy industry.

Understand

[edit]

Hatillo is a seaside town located along the Atlantic Coast between Arecibo and Camuy with a population of about 38,000. The town was founded by an immigrant from the Canary Islands and it retains much of its Canarian heritage as seen on the town festivals and vejigante costumes, a popular mask motif and folk character in many Puerto Rican carnivals that is the product of the mixture between the Canarian and Afro-Puerto Rican cultures. Other towns that also make use of this motif are Ponce and Loíza.
