Miehikkälä is a municipality in Kymenlaakso, Finland.

Trenches of the Salpa Line

The municipality of Miehikkälä became independent from Virolahti in 1887. In 1946, parts of the areas of Säkkijärvi municipality that remained on the Finnish side were added to the municipality after World War II. These include, for example, the village of Laisniemi. A former wartime bunker line called the Salpa Line runs through Miehikkälä area.

Get in

Miehikkälä's main route is regional road 384, which runs through its centre. Coming from the direction of Helsinki and Kotka, the best way to get to Miehikkälä is along Highway 7 (E18), from where you turn onto the mentioned regional road.

  • Salpa Trail. The Salpa Trail is a 50-km one-way hiking route, which follows a part of the Salpa Line. Along the route there are numerous remains of bunkers, dug-outs and other fortifications and several rest-stops. They are equipped with a compost toilet, compost, a fireplace and a firewood shelter and some of them with a lean-to for an over-night stay. The Salpa Line Museum is part of the route.
