Map of L'Esquirol

L'Esquirol is an extensive municipality located to the east of the Osona county. It is situated in the center-east of the Alt Ter region and originated in the 15th century along the long road from Vic to Olot. The initial nucleus was an inn located in a former farmhouse called Parai, where there was a squirrel, and it was called the Hostal de l'Esquirol. Hence, the term was popularly known as l'Esquirol. The former name of the municipality, Santa Maria de Corcó, was added in 1743 when the parish of Corcó was relocated to the village.

L'Esquirol is the population center that concentrates most services, but the municipality includes the nuclei of Cantonigròs, Sant Julià de Cabrera, and Sant Martí Sescorts, the latter being located practically on the plains of Vic.

Collsacabra, also known as Cabrerès, is a territory of approximately 150 km², situated between the regions of Garrotxa, La Selva, and Osona. It features villages with unique character, such as Rupit and Tavertet, along with shrines and hermitages with ancient history. The landscape includes cliffs and rugged cliffs that contrast with the high plateaus covered in dense vegetation, streams forming waterfalls and cascades, as well as significant farmhouses and ancestral homes.
