Ferry pier
At the old port

Peschiera del Garda is in Verona Province, by Lake Garda.

Understand

[edit]

Peschiera is a small charming town at the south-eastern tip of the lake Garda. Its core is located at the inside of an old Austrian fortress, where the river Mincio – the main outlet of the lake – starts to flow by four branches which form beautiful canals crossing the old town.

Get in

[edit]

By train

[edit]
  • 1 Stazione di Peschiera del Garda, Piazzale Stazione 1 (about 1 km east from the town centre). The station is the second busiest in the province of Verona, albeit you wouldn't say so from its appearance. There are frequent regional trains (RV) from Verona Porta Nuova, taking about 15 minutes.

By boat

[edit]
  • 2 Ferry pier, Piazza Maestro Giulio Battistoni (at the town's centre). Peschiera is the major ferry harbour on the lake. There are connections from there to virtually all the destinations at the shores of the lake.

By bus

[edit]
  • 3 Piazza Bettelloni (Bus stop) (at the town's centre, close to the ferry pier).

See

[edit]
  • 1 Castello Scaligero di Peschiera. Originally it was a 16th century fortress which is now a walled historical centre of the town. It's listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
  • 2 Palazzina del Comando del Presidio (Garrison Headquarters). Palazzina with other buildings of this small island form a military core of the Austrian fortress. There is a relatively quiet atmosphere around there compared to the touristy civic centre of the town.
  • 3 Scavi Romani (Roman Excavations), Piazza Ferdinando di Savoia, 11-13 (near the Chiesa di San Martino). Remains of Roman buildings (foundations) excavated in 1981. There are not much to see there, but it's free

Do

[edit]
  • 1 Stroll along the promenade (along Lungolago Mazzini). Which connects the old centre with one of the town's beaches.
  • 2 Mincio Cycleway. Take a bike ride along the former towpath of the river Mincio, connecting Peschiera with Mantua.
  • 3 Gardaland (2.5 km north from the Peschiera railway station by free shuttle bus). A big theme park is located in the south of the lake. Gardaland (Q1144922) on Wikidata Gardaland on Wikipedia
