Deep East Texas is in the Piney Woods of Texas, to the north and east of Houston.

- 2 Lufkin — has a zoo and a couple of museums
- 3 Jasper — there's fishing and boating on the Sam Rayburn Reservoir
- 4 Nacogdoches — the oldest city in the state
- 5 San Augustine — site of Spanish mission on the El Camino Real de los Tejas
- 6 The Woodlands — a suburban bedroom community of Houston that hosts the Houston Symphony during the summer
