Aggtelek is a village in northern Hungary, close to the Slovak border.

Aggtelek together with Jósvafő are famous for their huge and beautiful karst cave system. Aggtelek's karst caves (together with caves in nearby Slovak Karst National Park) have been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Multiple caves are available:

  • 1 Baradla. Most popular of the Aggtelek tours, approx. 1h/1km. This cave is part of the Baradla-Domnica system, measuring 25km in total, 5km of which is in Slovakia. 1500-2200ft.
  • 2 Béke. 5 hour tour, good shoes needed, and helmets are used - only part of the cave is paved.
  • 3 Vass Imre. 6.5km/3 hour tour, 6km of which is spent between ticket office and the cave. Currently closed.
  • 4 Rákoci Cave. 400m/40min tour, claimed to be probably the most spectacular cave in the region. 1800-3000ft.
