[edit]The town of Eket is an industrial city that has evolved into a conurbation, bringing together various communities. The Eket Local Government Area is estimated to be around 176,000 km² with an estimated population in 2013 of 219,000 people.
The area is oil-rich, and Eket is the thriving hub of a new oil and gas business, with more than 250 companies providing support services such as catering, flights, and exports. It is the hub of Mobil Producing Nigeria operations.

The airport was renamed in honour of former Akwa Ibom state governor Obong Victor Attah in 2018.
