Understand
[edit]Fika history is linked to the establishment of the Fika Emirate, formed by the Bolewa tribe in the 15th century after migrating from Daniski. The emirate was officially recognized as part of the British protectorate in 1899. In 1924 its headquarters moved to Potiskum, where it faced resistance from local tribes. The current emir, Dr. Muhammadu Abali Ibn Muhammadu Idrissa succeeded his father in 2009. The region has experienced conflicts between farmers and pastoralists driven by competition for land and resources, intensified by climate change and population growth.
