- A total solar eclipse on Monday 8 April 2024 starts at 1:53PM local time and lasts 3 min. Chances of a clear sky are 50%. The track of totality is northeast from Mexico over Texas to Texarkana then across Arkansas parallel to Hwys 30 and 67, then on into Missouri and Illinois.
- Turkey Trot Festival. The Turkey Trot festival includes a pageant, dinners, musical entertainment, a 5-kilometer run, a parade, and a nationally recognized turkey-calling contest sponsored by the National Wild Turkey Federation. Crafts and tools related to the hunting of wild turkeys are sold in streetside booths along the town square.
