Guatemala has more than 30 national parks preserving many types of ecosystems including dense lowland tropical jungle, mountainous forests, volcanic peaks, and the subterranean wonders of natural caverns. Parks and other protected natural areas are administered for the government by the Consejo Nacional de Áreas Protegidas (CONAP). CONAP is charged with the conservation, protection, and sustainable use of the country's natural resources.

In addition to the national parks, Guatemala designates 6 areas as biosphere reserves. Three of these are UNESCO Biosphere Reserves:

Parque Nacional Pacaya
Parque Nacional Naciones Unidas
Tikal is Guatemala's most famous national park
Candelaria Caves
