[edit]Orientation
[edit]Jieyang is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province. It is located in the eastern part of Guangdong Province, adjacent to Shantou, Shanwei, Meizhou and other places. Jieyang has a long history and profound cultural heritage, and has gone through multiple stages of development. The history of Jieyang can be traced back to the Qin Dynasty, when it belonged to the jurisdiction of Nanhai County. In the Tang Dynasty, Jieyang established "Jieyang County", which was an important administrative district. Jieyang has been an important node on the Maritime Silk Road since ancient times. Especially in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Jieyang became a prosperous city of commerce.
History
[edit]Jieyang's name comes from Jieyang Ridge, one of the ancient Five Ridges. It is said that in the 33rd year of Emperor Qin Shihuang's reign, a man in golden armor settled in an undeveloped desolate land, lifted the fog, and made the sun shine on the earth, thus bringing vitality and prosperity.
Jieyang's history can be traced back thousands of years. As early as the late Neolithic Age, there were traces of human activities in the Jieyang area. Jieyang belonged to the Nanyue Kingdom in the Zhou Dynasty. During the Tang Dynasty, Jieyang was under the jurisdiction of Chaozhou and developed relatively steadily. During the Song Dynasty, the Jieyang area gradually developed into an important commercial and cultural center. Jieyang is one of the important birthplaces of Chaoshan culture, forming the Chaozhou dialect and Chaoshan culture with local characteristics.
In fact, Jieyang's historical and cultural heritage is far deeper than people imagine. Every period of the city's history can be found in the city. In fact, Jieyang is an unpolished small city. It does not have the petty bourgeoisie of a big city, but only a strong market atmosphere, which makes people intoxicated if they are not careful.
