Keramoti is a holiday beach town in Macedonia in Greece.

For many tourists it is just a stopover for the ferry to Thasos, but it has beautiful long sandy beaches, plenty of accommodation and restaurants, and many attractions in the area. This makes it a varied holiday destination. Keramoti is ideal for people who find a beach holiday too boring and who like to make lots of trips to the less crowded tourist attractions in the area.

A lot of retirees from central and northern Europe have settled in the area and spend their summers in their holiday homes. Houses in the area are relatively affordable and the location is well served by the airport.

The marina is popular with sailors. You can also hire sailing boats for cruises. The islands of Thasos, Samothraki and Lemnos are within reach for a varied sailing trip. Nature lovers can enjoy exploring the surrounding natural beauty by hiking or biking along the coastline or in nearby areas, such as the Nestos Delta, a wetland area known for its diverse bird species and scenic landscapes.

Keramoti harbour
  • Kavala airport. Kavala airport is 12 km from the village. Taxis wait for passengers in front of the small airport building. The ride to Keramoti costs about €15.
  • 1 Bus station. There are regular bus connections to Kavala, Chrysoupolis and Xanthi. The bus stop is opposite the pier of the ferry to Thasos.
  • 2 Harbour. Keramoti is the main ferry port to the island of Thasos.

Get around[edit]

The place is small and flat, so everything is within easy walking distance. For the destinations outside, you need a vehicle. Kavala and Xanthi have bus connections.

  • 1 Front beach. Beautiful sandy beach overlooking the village, some with sun loungers.
  • 2 Main beach. The village is surrounded by an excellent sandy beach about 5 km long. In the area of the village, uninhabited areas alternate with beach bars. Because of the length of the beach, it is never crowded, even in high season.
  • 3 Nudist beach. At the very eastern end is the excellent naturist beach with fine sand and shallow water.
  • 4 Sailing. The marina of Keramoti is a well-known starting point for sailing trips to the North Aegean islands.
  • Hiking. Pangaion Hills in the area of the river delta and the gorge in the Nestos National Park or further along the Pangaion Hills and the Rhodope Mountains.
  • Mussel and Sardine Festival. The festival is an annual culinary event in this region. It features high-quality mussels from Keramoti and fresh sardines, accompanied by local tsipouro and ouzo. The festival in the harbour of Keramoti lasts two days and includes a fishing competition for amateur fishermen, live music, folk dance performances by traditional associations of the municipality of Nestos and foreign groups, as well as typical specialities for visitors.

Most restaurants and fast food are located along the harbour promenade, especially in the area of the old fishing harbour. If you are there by car, it is also worth driving to the surrounding villages, as the restaurants there are cheaper and less touristy.

Drink[edit]

Most of the year, the nightlife takes place in the restaurants and cafes at the harbour, and in the high season also at the various beach bars. If you want to experience more, you have to go to Kavala or Xanthi.

Sleep[edit]

You will find a good selection of hotels and especially many holiday flats in the village. Especially popular are the accommodations located along the beach in the southern part of the village.
