Khongoryn sand
The Khongoryn sand is located in the territory of Bayandalai sum of Umnogobi province and one of top sandy dune destination. This place is one of the most beautiful places in Mongolia. In 2010, it was declared as one of the "Nine Wonders of Mongolia".
Understand
[edit]Duut Manhan is the highest part of Hongor sand. The local people gave it the name because when you lie on the sand looking up, you can hear the sound of airplanes flying overhead. The sand dunes range from 10 to 195 meters in height from the base to the top, and when the wind blows, they make sounds like music. A clear example of this is the sound dunes of the Khongoryn sand. This sound comes from the tact that the tine particles of sand are blown away by the wind and become electrified and its positive and negative electric charges dissipate.
Get in
[edit]By car: From Ulaanbaatar city go to Dalanzadgad in Umnogov will take 6-7 hours by car. And will reach Khongoryn sand in 2-3 hours.
See
[edit]Looking at the entire vicinity of Khongor sand, it is very beautiful to see a rocky mountain in front, a sand dune in the middle where no vegetation can grow, and a green oasis with a stream in the north. The flood water flowing from the soft mountains makes a path through the Khongoryn sand and sinks into the soil, forming streams called Seruun spring and Arganga spring at the northern edge of the sand, and then rises to the ground and flows for more than 10 kilometers. It is called Khongor River.

Eat
[edit]Local guesthouses, tour camps and eateries offer Mongolian dishes (and some European dishes). Some locals offer dairy products such as dried curd, airag and yoghurt. There's also stores.
