Lake Lindu in the national park

Lore Lindu National Park is in Central Sulawesi of Indonesia.

Lore Lindu National Park is a forested protected area of 2,180 km², covering lowland and montane forests. It provides habitat to numerous rare species, including 77 bird species endemic to Sulawesi. The national park is designated as part of the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves. In addition to its rich wildlife, the park also contains megaliths dating from before 1300 AD.

The main gateways to Lore Lindu is Tentena from the east and Palu from the north. From Tentena a public jeep leaves daily with a charge of Rp 100,000 per person. Another option is to charter a private jeep which is approximately 1-1,500,000.

Trekking in the national park. The cloud forests and the highlands offer stunning scenery, albeit the undulating terrain can be tough (especially after rainfall), and for a lot of the treks are guide is required. Although Lore Lindu is almost bang on the equator, nights can be surprisingly cold (8 °C is not uncommon), so bringing a sleeping bag is highly recommendable.

The beautiful valleys offer easier hiking among ricefields, with the beautiful view of the surrounding, highly forested mountains. Bada valley is a must-see for the megalights here.

Some of the villages (Doda, Bomba), offer cheap stay in the basic losmen. Expect Rp 100,000-150,000 per person per night for a bed and 2 meals.
