Greenwood is a city in Mississippi, located at the junction of the rivers Tallahatchie and Yalobusha, from whereon after it's called the Yalobusha. It's known for its extensive cotton production and remembered as one of the centres of conflict during the Civil Rights era.

Get in[edit]

Both U.S Routes 82 and 49 pass through Greenwood. The Mississippi Highway 7 connects the city to other towns in the region, including Grenada and Itta Bena. If you're looking to get in by public transport, the Amtrak trains offer good options, with connections to New Orleans and Chicago.

The nearest airport is Greenwood-Leflore Airport (GWO), some 10mi east of town.

  • 2 Robert Johnson Gravesite. Place of rest for the famed but quickly departed blues singer.
  • 3 Emmett Till Interpretive Center, 120 N Court St, Sumner, +1 662 483-1231. Exhibit pertaining to the court case revolving around the infamous murder of 14-year old African American Emmett Till over allegedly offending a white woman in 1955.
