Muni Estuary Nature Reserve (Reserva Natural Esturario De Rio Muni) is in Cogo district, Río Muni, Equatorial Guinea.

1 Muni Estuary Nature Reserve is one of the thirteen protected areas in Equatorial Guinea. Muni River Estuary is the major feature of the reserve, which is near the border of Gabon. Six rivers join and discharge in the Atlantic Ocean to form the largest estuary in Equatorial Guinea, formed by Río Muni, Río Congüe and Río Mandyani.

Landscape

A 700-km² protected wetland of mangrove habitat, The inland forest offers incredible sightings, such as the Calabar ursine maki, the potto, the needle-nosed galagos and the collared mangrove.

Flora and fauna

Muni Estuary Nature Reserve is made of mangrove, water and mud, several waves, steam and mist that has always fired the imagination of fishermen.

It is the natural habitat for chameleons, crocodiles, and Manatee- a great sea cow which is the only competitive herbivorous marine animal. They are natural breeding grounds for fish and birds.

Climate

Located within the warm-humid equatorial climatic region.Its proximity to the sea acts as a moderator of temperature variations. Precipitation in the area ranges 2,000 mm near the coast to 3,000 mm more towards the headwaters of the rivers. There are four distinct seasons: wet (September to November), dry (December to February), second wet (March to May), second dry (June to August).
